Correction
- ETMs are
Electronic
Technical Manuals
We
made several errors in the previous newsletter's article on ETMs
and IETMs. Kevin D. Paulson was kind enough to point these out and
he offers some comments as well. (Mr. Paulson is the IETM/JCALS/LIDB
(EOPDB) Program Manager, US Army Materiel Command (USAMC) Logistics
Support Activity.)
First,
ETMs are Electronic Technical Manuals and IETMs are Interactive
Electronic Technical Manuals.
Second,
the Army's IETM Strategic Plan was issued/released in May 2000.
Mr.Paulson is also Co-Chair of the IETM Working Group that developed
and issued this plan.
Third,
in jumping from ETMs (in the title) to IETMs (in the article), we
may have confused some readers. "This gives the impression
to a novice reader that these two technologies are one and the same;
that is not correct and we should not give that impression. They
are two totally separate entities!"
Fourth,
we also may have given the impression that IETMs are only diagnostic
products. "That is farthest from the truth! IETMs
contain all the information that existing Technical Manuals currently
contain (such as operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and provisioning
procedures) with the diagnostic capability and on-board sensors
being just part of the overall IETM."
We
have incorporated these points in a re-written article on IETMs
that can be viewed at: http://www.dclab.com/IETMs.asp.
