Library of Congress to Acquire Massive Collection of Tweets

Either the Library of Congress is becoming awfully cool, or Twitter isn’t quite as hip/edgy as it was a year ago — or maybe it’s a little of both. In a bid to stay “with it,” the nation’s oldest federal cultural institution and the largest library in the world, founded in 1800, announced earlier this month (via tweet, no less) that it will be acquiring the entire collection of Twitter messages dating back through March 2006. According to Library of Congress blogger Matt Raymond, “It boggles my mind to think what we might be able to learn about ourselves and the world around us from this wealth of data.” So now that you’re tweeting for all posterity, u might want 2 check ur spelling. (Wouldn’t want your great-grandkids to make fun of you.)
