Coming Soon: The Dawn of the Digital Textbook

Most college students today have yet to encounter a digital textbook, but this won’t be the case for long — at least if the predictions of social learning platform XPlana hold true. According to its recently released research report, in five years’ time, digital textbook sales will account for an estimated 18% of textbook sales in the US higher education market (that’s one in five textbooks), with projected revenues of over $1 billion. Working from an estimated current market share of 0.5%, that means an average annual growth of 100% for the next five years.
