DCL converted the State of Wisconsin's laws and statutes from an outdated IBM mainframe format to Interleaf and Documentum, when Andersen upgraded their system to "Text 2000," which allows them to manage, publish and modify documents in-house. See case study.

DCL is converting the 30,000 page ASM Handbook - the definitive reference source for metallurgy - into SGML, in accordance with a proprietary DTD. The material is characterized by dense pages, complex mathematical formulas, numerous tables of various degrees of complexity, and charts, graphs and illustrative images. The individual volumes of this series are heavily indexed. Formulas are keyed directly into SGML in accordance with a math DTD. DCL has also authored a software tool to enable the conversion of the SGML formulas to Tex.

For this medical publisher DCL converted about one dozen monthly medical journals, as well as a weekly title, from BMA-compliant SGML to SGML in accordance with the Ovid DTD.

DCL converted hard copy and electronic legal documents, written in English and Spanish, into SGML format. To facilitate this process, DCL developed a method to apply appearance-based tagging to legal documents during the keying process, thus greatly facilitating the process of providing accurate SGML tagging. Approximately 100,000 pages have been converted to SGML format by DCL.

For this Canada-based legal publisher DCL converted casebooks and statutes into BRS/SEARCH using electronic conversion, OCR, and off-shore key entry. English as well as foreign language materials in French were converted.

DCL was responsible for the building of a digitized signatures data base from microfilm. Working around the clock, DCL scanned more than 300 rolls of microfilm containing more than 1,000,000 signature cards, matched the cards to an account database, and cropped the signature areas into a database format. The project required the coordination of a number of technologies that had never been intended to work together along with offshore labor resources to perform the most labor-intensive portions of the project. Based on the success of this project, we offered similar services to another division of Chase and were hired by First Federal for a similar project.

DCL converted high volumes of automobile maintenance manuals into an SGML publishing system for this automotive publisher. Source material encompassed twelve years and was in hard copy and microfiche, which was imaged. Complex layouts of multiple illustrations were incorporated into the SGML. DCL developed software to automatically determine whether OCR or key-entry would be the most appropriate process for a particular section.

DCL converted high volumes of procedures from WordPerfect to Word, following a strict template. Fifteen groups of users from three different plants each had its own vision of how materials should be translated to the template, so DCL developed detailed editorial specifications to address all of them. An extreme amount of engineering was necessary.

High tagging accuracy, as well as text accuracy, was a priority for this client. Material is scientific in nature, containing dense pages and numerous formulas.

First Federal Savings & Loan

DCL imaged more than a quarter of a million signature cards so that First Federal could automate the signature recognition process. Signatures were scanned on-site at about 30 branch locations. See case study.

DCL integrated this truck manufacturer's service manuals into an electronic publishing system. These manuals were technical documents rich in illustrations and diagrams. Hard copy was keyed and WordPerfect was converted using DCL's proprietary artificial-intelligence-based conversion software. All materials were delivered as validated and parsed SGML according to the client's DTD.
