Slash your document maintenance costs in half...

New Harmonizer™ content reuse service from DCL measures and eliminates redundant data from document sets. This unique system checks for duplicate content (and "near duplicates") and weeds out what you don't need; it also harmonizes text and grammar variations to fit your standard. In short, Harmonizer™ clears the clutter in order to reduce costs, improve accuracy, and speed up turn-around.

Graphic display of redundancy
Over 60% of this document set is potentially redundant - 39.25% with exact matches, and a further 21.59% with close matches

The fact is, our testing has revealed most document collections contain more than 50% redundancy. This means you are maintaining twice the content - at twice the expense. It also means you are likely updating the same content multiple times, thus running the risk of errors creeping in. Not only that, you're recreating text you've already written - and paying for the privilege!

Harmonizer™ works with SGML, XML, HTML, Word RTF files, Framemaker MIF files, Interleaf ASCII, and many others. It is designed to work with the largest documentation sets, and can update files and insert effectivity and conditional information. What's more, as part of the service, we can add tagging to files to make your Content Management System (CMS) or Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) recognize the reusable modules - a major bonus.

Content Reuse Assessment

Why not take a fast and inexpensive test to discover the value of a content reuse strategy for your document collection? Click here or scroll to the bottom of this page to find out more.

With Harmonizer(TM) you can...

Clearly predict Return on Investment (ROI) - Harmonizer™ measures the potential for content reuse, allowing you to objectively assess the benefits to be gained from your new Content Management System, Interactive Electronic Technical Manual, or other new document technology. It also dramatically reduces implementation costs, further improving ROI.

Combine "slightly different" document sets into one - An aircraft component manufacturer or auto manufacturer - or anyone producing multiple document versions for model variations - can use Harmonizer™ to easily combine them into a single document. Harmonizer™ displays version similarities and differences, lets you select among them, and automatically inserts appropriate effectivity and selection tagging.

Reduce translation costs - Harmonizer™ finds duplicate content in advance, and even finds "slightly different" phrases, allowing you to easily harmonize variations early in the process. By reducing the amount of content in a document set you can significantly reduce translation costs.

Build your common text library - Documentation for a line of products often incorporates similar information, which repeats across the line; parts, maintenance procedures, and so on. A pharmaceutical manufacturer, for example, will regularly put the same warning in many product information inserts, and financial documents use similar paragraphs in many different places. Harmonizer™ finds repetitive phrasing and variations, so you can decide upfront on best practices, and quickly build your text library.

Improve document quality - Harmonizer™ finds unintended differences in text phrasing, spelling, and punctuation, often finding errors that have been buried in a document for years. It also cleans up typographical errors. Identifying these inconsistencies vastly improves content reuse potential. In fact, some consider this error-finding element to be the most important benefit of Harmonizer™ - and everyone who has used the service never fails to be surprised at the errors that have been in their documentation for years.

The new Harmonizer™ tools and services are unique in that they allow you to gain accurate metrics on what has only been discussed anecdotally in the past - i.e. how money can be saved in corporate and government documentation by reusing content and cutting out wasted data.

Get A Content Reuse Assessment...

Alternatively, perhaps you would like to take a fast and inexpensive test to discover the value of a content reuse strategy for your document collection? Our Content Reuse Assessment lets you analyze a significant cross-section of your document collection. It provides you with:

  • Summary reports with clear statistics showing the potential for content reuse.
  • Detailed analysis reports displaying the location and content of duplicate and near duplicate sections of data.

A Content Reuse Assessment costs between $3,000 and $5,000, depending on the number of pages and number of input formats. It normally takes 3-5 days to complete. Exact quotes are provided on receipt of samples.

When you’re ready to go, we provide a secure FTP connection for upload of your documents. Alternatively, you can send your material on a CD or DVD. We then process your documents through our Harmonizer™ system and prepare a full set of reports for you to download via our website.

NOTE: For an initial assessment we suggest analyzing 5,000 - 10,000 pages and limiting the assessment to two or three formats, preferably Word, Frame, SGML, XML, or Interleaf. We can do as large a collection as you like; and support many other formats - for example HTML, PDF, and paper - but adding formats may increase cost.

Order now

To order your Content Reuse Assessment now, call Shavy Schwimmer on (718)307-5767, or send an e-mail to reuse@dclab.com. We can then discuss details and sort out a precise quotation.
