IETMs boost Army maintenance performance
|
|
Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals, or IETMs, provide U.S. Army helicopter maintainers with thousands of facts and procedures - right at their fingertips on portable notebook computers. IETMs, which are replacing thousands of pages of information in dozens of printed technical manuals, go well beyond standard computer-based maintenance support systems. Aside from being easy to use virtually anywhere and any time, they provide:
-
Improved troubleshooting accuracy.
-
Simplified operation for novice and expert.
-
Lower false removal rates and maintenance man hours.
-
Increase aircraft availability.
With earlier electronic manuals, maintainers had to scroll or search through the manuals, which simply were transferred from paper to the computer. IETMs automatically link all mandatory maintenance tasks, parts and other information without the maintainer having to search for it.
By using the IETM, the maintainer has access to thousands of illustrations, schematics and wire diagrams, each cross- referenced to its related subsystem. Data for each related diagram, maintainer task, recommended tool and procedure is linked by the computer. IETMs can also swiftly determine the best point to start the maintenance process, bypassing unnecessary maintenance tasks to quickly begin the correct repair procedures.
