Company Description

Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL) is the nation's leading data conversion service bureau. Located in New York, DCL is expert at capturing, converting, and tagging text and images from all sources.  Having particular expertise in SGML and XML, the company is instrumental in some of the largest, most complex conversion projects in the world.

Role and Responsibilities

DCL Programmers are responsible for the development and design of programming specifications and the implementation of these specifications into working solutions.  In DCL’s data conversion process, programmers write code to convert client data into new formats as specified in the engineering phase of the conversion process.

Reporting Relationships

 

Programmers report to the Director of Research and Development for technical and professional direction and work directly for Project Managers on client projects.  Programmers work closely with Data Analysts, Editors, and Production Personnel as members of client project teams.

 

Qualifications

 

Background

·       Undergraduate and/or graduate degree, or equivalent, in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field required;

·       2 to 4 years of experience in programming or data analysis in the information technology industry or related fields preferred;

·       Experience as a member of a multi-disciplinary project team preferred;

·       Experience working in electronic document conversion or related industry a plus.

 

Technical

·       Knowledge of modern programming languages, especially text processing languages, such as C, Perl, and AWK

·       Extensive PC and PC software experience

·       Familiarity with both DOS and Windows

 

Capabilities

·      Demonstrated ability to design and implement programming specifications in a timely, proficient manner essential;

·      Demonstrated effectiveness in working with functional program specification provided in English, both oral and written required;

·      Demonstrated ability to respond to requirements provided by customers and/or colleagues with timely, effective technical solutions necessary;

·      Ability to communicate technical content in written and oral English required; Ability to analyze DTDs and to prepare detailed program designs a plus; and

·       Working knowledge of electronic data conversion business a plus.
