The recent SSP Seminar in New York focused on File Formats - which to use for authoring, which to use for peer review, and ultimately which to use for archival purposes.  A critical part of the discussion focused on the best approach to archiving content so that it can be repurposed or licensed to maximize revenues.

Speakers were drawn from senior management at several major companies that have embraced the new electronic challenge.  These include: Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins, Mosby Inc., Knowledgesite, and PaperPath Inc.

Topics included:

  • Publishing & the Electronic Challenge.

  • Print as Just Another Output.

  • SGML or XML?

  • Is It Feasible to Do SGML Upfront?

  • Publishing Architectures & the Dream Production Cycle.

  • How Do I Output to Multiple DTDs?

  • What Happens to Which Files to Get Materials Online?
