Digital Information Survey: 80% of Companies are making improvements to documentation process.
A detailed analysis of the results from the recent "digital information" survey carried out by DCL showed that 57% of organizations are already in the process of implementing process improvements while an additional 23% have plans to make changes.
Other highlights from the analysis included:
-
Microsoft Word™ remains the prevalent authoring tool (48%).
The distribution of XML versus Word Processing formats was essentially the same for all organizations irrespective of size.
The File Server System remains the prevalent way to store information (45%).
There was a strong correlation between these two results with MS-Word users more likely to store information on the file system in contrast to those organizations using XML authoring tools. XML users were most likely to use a Content Management System to store and manage information.
Most respondents feel it's getting easier to deliver the correct information to the people that need it in a timely manner; and software is credited as the reason for the improvement.
Respondents that felt it's getting harder to deliver the correct information to the people that need it in a timely manner cited more demands for multiple outputs (web, paper, etc.) as the primary reason.
Respondents utilizing XML were slightly more likely to say that delivering documentation was getting easier (58%) as compared to their counterparts utilizing Word Processing formats (50%).
Change is in the air, as most respondents are currently implementing process improvements (57%).
While most organizations (regardless of their size) were either implementing improvements or evaluating improvements, smaller departments were the most likely to have no plans to evaluate or implement improvements.
